KOTA KINABALU – Thousands of people in Sabah’s west coast districts have been hit by another round of flash floods and water supply disruption today following last night’s downpour.

Just one week ago, Tuaran, Kota Belud and Penampang were hit by flash floods, forcing many families to nearby temporary rescue centres.

Sabah Civil Defence deputy director Mohd Izaimi Md Daud told The Vibes parts of Penampang, Telipok and Rugading have become inundated last night, but no evacuations were carried out.

“As of noon, the floodwaters are already receding.”

Sabah Water Department Director Edward Lingkapo said the heavy rainfall last night had increased the turbidity of Sg Telibong in Tuaran, forcing the shut down of its water treatment plant nearby.

“Water production will be halted until the river returns to normal. There will be water supply disruptions in the northern parts of Kota Kinabalu.”

Some 18 villages, a mall and two townships in Tuaran have been affected by the closure of the water treatment plant.
